Infrastructure projects to trigger a boom in realty demand in Thane

It is expected to be passing through densely populated areas like Ghatkopar, Mulund and Teen Hath Naka at Thane and will be a fully elevated track.

2. Mumbai Metro line 4A2 - An extension of Mumbai metro line 4 from Kasarvadavali-Gaimukh, this ₹ 949 crore project will connect the two stations of Gowniwada and Gaimukh. It can also be connected to the Mumbai Metro Line 10.

3. Mumbai Metro Line 5 - The elevated corridor of metro line 5 is proposed to connection from Thane to Bhiwandi and Kalyan spanning 24.9 kms and costing around ₹8,416 crores. This will bypass of major bottlenecks currently occurring and make the commute at least 50% faster.

4. Thane-Ghodbunder elevated corridor4- This 4.4 km elevated road promises to decongest the current traffic flowing between Thane and Ghodbunder at the proposed cost of ₹ 667 crores.The stretch will be from the Fountain Hotel on the current Western Express Highway to the Gaimukh area in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and will be the major connect between NH3 and the NH-8.

5. Thane Borivali underground tunnel6 - A monumental project expected to lower commute time by almost 2-3 hours at Ghodbunder Road will have a 1 km long link road with a 10.2 kms tunnel stretch constructed under the Sanjay Gandhi National park. Starting at Tikuji Ni Wadi in Thane and connecting to Borivali at the western express highway, this ₹ 8,900 crore project will take only 15 mins to complete a 21 km stretch of road.

6. The Airoli–Katai Naka elevated road and a tunnel connecting Thane-Belapur Road and National Highway (NH-4)7 - Connecting Navi Mumbai to Kalyan, this ₹ 400 crore infra plan proposes to reduce travel time by at least 30 mins and travel distance by almost 7 kms.

7. Coastal Road8 - This 33 kms extension beginning at Versova and heading towards Marve connecting Ghodbunder Road at NH-8 via Bhayandar has been proposed by the committee set up by the MMRDA. Not only will this make the commute much faster but also showcase beautiful sea views at the same time.

8. RoRo Service 9- People commuting between Thane and South Mumbai will soon be able to avoid taking the hectic road or the crowded train service and opt for water transport instead. The first phase of this project will connect Thane with Vasai and Kalyan, while the second phase will connect Thane with Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Around 3,000 commuters are expected to benefit from this saving them 1 hour of travel time each to Mumbai and saving around 30 mins travel time to Navi Mumbai. The project is proposed to cost ₹ 661 crores and is the most exciting of the lot.

9. Kopri Bridge widening, Thane10 - The 250 crore project of widening Kopri Bridge from an existing 4 Lane Bridge to create an 8 lane bridge is under execution of MMRDA nodal agency. This project on the eastern expressway highway connects Mumbai and Thane. A majority of the first phase including the laying of 2 lanes on either side of the bridge is about to get over.

While the above are some of the bigger infra projects proposed, various flyovers and additional rail lines have also been proposed. Flyovers at LBS Marg near Castle Mill and MG Road at Naupada are also upcoming in the near future along with a third flyover at Naupada Talkies11 which has already been opened to the public. This has reduced the burden on 7,500 commuters already. The Thane Diva additional line12 is also proposed to help segregate the different passengers between outstation and local categories thus improving the speed and the frequency of trains.
